Thanks to the smartphone more self-portraits than ever before are being made. But in the Dutch Golden Age things were very different: only draughtsmen or painters could produce a selfie. Their self-portraits demanded time and skill. Today’s selfie-takers could still learn a thing or two from them.
The exhibition Dutch Self-Portraits – Selfies of the Golden Age is on display at the Mauritshuis until 3 January 2016.
