Erika Verzutti talks about using clay in her early sculpture, her subsequent shift to bronze, and her development of a use of paint aimed at contemporizing its status as a “precious” metal. She discusses using fruit as a material and its relationship to two of her collection works, Painted Lady (2012) and Venus on Fire (2013). Finally, she addresses a more recently acquired work, Girl with a Pearl Earring (2013), which is part of her development of what she calls “sculptures of paintings.”
