Artist and educator Luis Camnitzer details his conception of “art thinking,” describing it as a system for “organizing and acquiring knowledge.” Recalling his own previous experience of slide-based art history classes, Camnitzer goes on to argue that the subject’s exclusive focus is determined by individuals in positions of power. He then discusses his own work Art History Lesson #6, which is featured in Under the Same Sun: Art from Latin America Today, and explains how it addresses its subject.
