Speaker Dr. James Robinson has had a broad and deep association with the Indianapolis Museum of Art for 35 years, beginning in 1979 as Assistant Curator of Oriental art. From 1984 to 2009 he was the Jane Weldon Myers Curator of Asian Art. In addition, from 2001 to 2004 he was Curatorial Division Chair for the IMA. Since 2009, he has been the Jane Weldon Myers Curator Emeritus. During his tenure as curator of Asian Art, Robinson managed the acquisition of two magnificent collections of paintings. The first was a collection of almost 80 paintings from the Japanese Edo period acquired in 2000. The second was a purchase in 2004 of Chinese paintings which complemented the existing Lilly collection.
