Bret Slater playfully adopts aspects of Pop, Minimalism, and Color Field painting and subverts them in his abstract and brightly colored compositions. Slater's dynamic, surprising, and tactile works are characterized by a thick application of paint punctuated by cutouts and notches that expose layers of paint beneath the surface. 
 
Wun Hunnit engages in a dialogue with a diverse array of highlights from the IMA's collection of contemporary art, including works by Kenneth Noland, Barnett Newman, and Donald Judd. This painting was created specifically for the occasion of 6 x 13 and will be a significant addition to the IMA's permanent collection.
