TECHNO MYSTIC uses YouTube as a spirit medium, bringing together seven artist-made films and videos that explore the incongruous co-existence of mysterious phenomena and modern technologies.

A woman is mysteriously transformed after an encounter with an exercise ball.

Shana Moulton's performances and videos are filled with objects you might find in a certain kind of Northern California home: steeped in New Age spiritualism, but manufactured in China. Here, an exercise ball is the central prop. It may seem ordinary, but under Shana's lens the diagram illustrating its correct use somehow seems as inexplicable and mysterious as ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics - and the whistling sound of its deflating makes for an ominous soundtrack. In this video, the exercise ball (despite its cheap plastic provenance) effects a strange  transformation in Shana's character.

Shana Moulton is an artist based in New York. Her recent projects include the electronic opera 'Whispering Pines 10' (with Nick Hallett), which premiered at New York's The Kitchen in 2010 before touring widely to venues such as Portland Institute for Contemporary Arts, SFMOMA, and UNC-Chapel Hill. Past exhibitions include Art In General (New York), Broadway 1602 (New York), Bluecoat Arts Center (Liverpool), and Galerie Gregor Staiger (Zurich). Moulton's video work is distributed by Electronic Arts Intermix, New York.
