Period & Style

A pudgy baby is entranced from its crib into a slimming metamorphosis. THINSPIRATION pairs music by DJs Fatherhood (Physical Therapy and Michael Magnan) with visuals by Seychelle Allah and Rhett LaRue with dissonant if not tongue-in-cheek effects: a soothing hypnotist's voice is laid over dance beats, a weight loss trainer is posed as a shaman figure, and a toddler is indoctrinated in diet culture. This work was commissioned and first presented by dismagazine.com where the extended audio with looped visuals can be found.

Rhett LaRue was born in Dallas, Texas in 1982 and currently lives and works in Los Angeles, California. He received a BA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2004. His work was recently featured in "First Look: Aboveground Animation" at the New Museum, New York (2012) and dismagazine.com (2011). He frequently collaborates with Lizzie Fitch and Ryan Trecartin, whose work together was shown at New Galerie, Paris (2012), Showroom MAMA, Rotterdam (2012), and the Julia Stoschek Collection, Dusseldorf (2012). He was Ryan Trecartin's main 3D animation collaborator for his Any Ever series.

Seychelle Allah was born in VIrginia in 1988. He studied visual arts at Copper Union and lives and works in Orlando, FL.

Fatherhood is Michael Magnan and Physical Therapy. A Queens, NY/ New Jersey based production and DJ duo focused on all things heady and club-ready.
