Degas was fascinated by ballet and the gestures of ballerinas, and he made more than a thousand drawings, paintings, and sculptures of ballet themes. Short, quick strokes of pale pink and green paint on the dancers’ arms and backs catch the reflection of gas light. Squiggly black lines around their red-orange bodices evoke a sense of their excitement as they wait to perform. On view in the West Building, Main Floor, Gallery 83.

http://artbabble.org/video/ngadc/four-dancers-c-1899-edgar-degas#comments ballet Edgar Degas European Painting For Kids Impressionism Painting Learning to Look National Gallery of Art, Washington http://artbabble.org/sites/default/files/bvideos/ed/ed1156ac4bbf55dc/poster-image-07.jpg ed1156ac4bbf55dc Fri, 30 Sep 2011 19:56:10 +0000 s-sarraf 8858 at http://artbabble.org Degas and the Art of Dance http://artbabble.org/video/getty-museum/degas-and-art-dance

Institution:

The J.
