He particularly enjoyed creating outdoor scenes of sports and recreation, such as this one, which took him three years to complete. It was exhibited in 1876—the 100-year anniversary of the United States—and has become one of the best-known and most beloved artistic images of life in 19th-century America. On view in the West Building, Main Floor, Gallery 68.</p> <p><a href="http://artbabble.org/video/ngadc/breezing-fair-wind-1873%E2%80%931876-winslow-homer" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://artbabble.org/video/ngadc/breezing-fair-wind-1873%E2%80%931876-winslow-homer#comments American Art American Painting Boat Fishing For Kids Painting Sailing Winslow Homer Learning to Look National Gallery of Art, Washington http://artbabble.org/sites/default/files/bvideos/44/441bbc3a4681d898/poster-image-04.jpg 441bbc3a4681d898 Fri, 30 Sep 2011 19:26:57 +0000 s-sarraf 8848 at http://artbabble.org Watercolor Technique and Conservation: A Case Study http://artbabble.org/video/hammer/watercolor-technique-and-conservation-case-study <div class="field field-type-nodereference field-field-series"> <div class="field-label">Series:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/series/hammer-lectures">HAMMER LECTURES</a> </div> <div class="field-item even"> <a href="/series/hammer-lectures">HAMMER LECTURES</a> </div> </div> </div> <div class="field field-type-nodereference field-field-institution"> <div class="field-label">Institution:&nbsp;</div> <div class="field-items"> <div class="field-item odd"> <a href="/partner/hammer-museum">Hammer Museum</a> </div> </div> </div> <p>Conservator Kristi Dahm gives an inside view of the techniques employed by masters of watercolor painting, as well as the chemistry of pigments and the cutting edge contemporary methods used to analyze and preserve them.
