About 20 feet in diameter, Indianapolis Island is a fully inhabitable
experimental living structure that examines the daily needs of contemporary
human beings. Each summer, the island will be occupied by one or two
commissioned residents who are local art students. They will collaborate with
Zittel by adapting and modifying the island’s structure according to their
individual needs.

New York-based artist collective Type A, consisting of Adam Ames and Andrew
Bordwin, employs a variety of media to create artwork that playfully explores
the nature of collaboration and competition. Working together since 1998,
their work looks closely at tensions inherent to these interactions. This
documentary showcases their work by examining their relationship as both
friends and collaborators, and how their humor and thoughtfulness shape their
approach to art. Featured is Type A’s project developed for 100 Acres: The
Virginia B.

IMA TV chats with Sarah Green while installing Atelier van Lieshout's Funky
Bone Benches in the 100 Acres Art and Nature Park at the Indianapolis Museum
of Art. Joep van Lieshout, with his studio Atelier van Lieshout, will present
a group of 20 benches with drawings of large bones that will together form
the shape of an enormous, stylized human skeleton. The work grows out of
ideas about native heritage and cultural development, with bones iconically
referring to artifacts and remains from previous occupants.

and Project Architect Jeremy Olsen discuss Kendall Buster's Statum Pier in
the 100 Acres Are and Nature Park. Stratum Pier consists of a series of
organically shaped and layered platforms at the water’s edge that provides
a vantage for observing the expansive 35-acre lake and woodlands. The design
of the emerald green fiberglass and steel structure suggest a topographical
map with stacked layers that merge with the environment and appear to be an
extrusion from the shoreline.

Tom Williams of Steel Pro Erectors shares his involvement with Los
Carpinteros' Free Basket in the Indianapolis Museum of Art's 100 Acres Art
and Nature Park. Los Carpinteros has developed a large-scale site-specific
installation titled Free Basket for 100 Acres: The Virgina B. Fairbanks Art &
Nature Park that continues their interest in the juxtaposition of the
practical and the imaginary.

On September 18, 2008 the Indianapolis Museum of Art broke ground on 100 Acres: The Virginia B. Fairbanks Art & Nature Park. Located on 100 acres of untamed woodlands, wetlands, a lake, and meadows adjacent to the Museum, the Art & Nature Park will be one of the largest museum art parks in the country and the only one to feature the ongoing commission of site-specific artworks. It will open in spring of 2010 with a visitor center, numerous trails, and eight site-specific inaugural works commissioned from emerging and midcareer artists.
