A poetry slam was held in the exhibition Face Jugs: Art and Ritual in 19th Century South Carolina at the Milwaukee Art Museum on June 24, 2012. The exhibition includes 23 early African American-made Edgefield, SC face jugs, interpreting their connection to Africa. This video, filmed by Dan Ollman, features the winner of the poetry slam, Darian Wilson. It also features two poets, Destinny Fletcher and Denzel Taylor, both of whom performed powerful poems inspired by the face jugs.

Commissioned by Whig Party supporters of presidential hopeful Henry Clay, this Gothic Revival bedstead was intended to grace what is now called the Lincoln Bedroom of the White House.

Clay narrowly lost the 1844 election, largely due to his failure to endorse the annexation of the Republic of Texas, and the bedroom suite was bought by Louisiana cotton magnate Daniel Turnbull for Rosedown Plantation, where the bed remained for some 150 years before entering the DMA's collection.
