Set sail with this video from the Children’s Video Tour, featuring Winslow Homer’s painting “Breezing Up (A Fair Wind).” Homer traveled to many places and countries during his life, sketching and gathering ideas for his work. He particularly enjoyed creating outdoor scenes of sports and recreation, such as this one, which took him three years to complete. It was exhibited in 1876—the 100-year anniversary of the United States—and has become one of the best-known and most beloved artistic images of life in 19th-century America. On view in the West Building, Main Floor, Gallery 68. http://www.nga.gov/fcgi-bin/tinfo_f?object=30228 ----- Find the Children's Video Tour at http://www.nga.gov/education/timetravel/index.shtm
