Artist-in-Residence: Mathieu Grodet - March 2012

Mathieu Grodet is a French-born artist living and working in Canada. He creates thin and elegant glass objects in classic Venetian style, engraved with imagery that addresses modern-day ideas and issues. In his March 2012 Residency at The Studio, Grodet used the Museum's Rakow Library to research forms and styles for vessels, as well as sketches for his final drawings on the vessels.

What can we tell about a photograph by knowing about the camera used to make it? The painters featured in the IMA exhibition Snapshot: Painters and Photography, Bonnard to Vuillard were experimenting with the newest technology of their era; the photos they made were created in a highly charged creative atmosphere, buoyed by the democratization of the camera and the birth of amateur photography.
