In Body in Flight (Delta) and Body in Flight (American), Allora & Calzadilla appropriated the forms of state-of-the art elite business class seats and reproduced full-scale wooden replicas stained like polychromatic religious icons. In Body in Flight (Delta) the artists substitute the airline seat replica for a balance beam to be used by a female gymnast from USA Gymnastics—the national governing body for gymnastics in the U.S.—who will perform a routine that emphasizes flexibility and fluidity.

David Harrington of Kronos Quartet talks about the inspiration and development of A Chinese Home, a new piece conceived with pipa virtuoso Wu Man and director Chen Shi Zheng A Chinese Home is structured in four parts, with transitional elements between the sections and a recorded soundscape that will be played in the hall during intermission as a prelude. Starting within the home, visually represented by footage from the historic Yin Yu Tang, the first section of the work evokes the China of the distant past through ceremonial and spiritual music.

Gecko: A Balinese Folktale

Asian Art Museum Storyteller, Miriam Mills, tells the story of Gecko: A Balinese Folktale (adapted by Miriam Mills). Note: This story was inspired by "Go to Sleep, Gecko!" by Margaret Read MacDonald (2006) and a Balinese tale in "Folk Tales from Bali and Lombok" by Margaret Muth Alibash (Jakarta:Penerbit Djambatan, 1990). The story also is retold by Balinese storyteller Made Taro in his "Lagu-Lagu Permainan Traditional Bali" (Denpasar:Upada Sastra, 1999). In Made Taro's version, a woodpecker begins the tale and the chief is a lion, rather than a human.

Investigating the "anonymous and unsung heroes" of the Pearl River Delta or "the factory of the world," Cao's production incorporates elements of traditional Chinese legends, Hong Kong soap operas, and Cantonese farces.
