An article from Nuvo Weekly about the Indianapolis Museum of Art displaying Jack Kerouac’s,'On the Road' scroll
Meet Katie Zarich, the first Indianapolis Museum of Art staffer featured in this continuing series. Go behind the scenes at a major art museum to see what it takes to make it all work.
[Phone rings]
[Katie Zarich.]
One of the main priorities of my job is to try to help the IMA get coverage in the media, whether it's newspaper, TV, or radio. This means that I have to be accessible
to the media all the time.
[I got Bradley's message about Christmas at Lilly House, the open houses, what goes on during them?]
[I can send you what we did for the...here.]
[Oh...perfect!]
It's really important that I check my e-mail and my voice mails several times a day, print pieces, like newspapers and magazines, will be on tight deadlines
and we will need an image immediately
This is the schedule from the past few days. We had lots and lots of different TV appearances so it just helps keep us organized because we have to get security to be on staff,
we have to get conservation to make sure that the camera man is doing things in the right way so that the artwork isn't harmed.
We have some of our recent coverage here. This ran about a month ago when the Asian Galleries opened. This is some coverage in the local gossip column
about the European Galleries opening. This is a review about the European Galleries opening in Nuvo.
I think one of the most rewarding parts of my job is when I see somebody who I know, who knows I work for the IMA and sometimes they don't even put it together that my job is PR
and that I'm often the one trying to get us in the paper, but when I see somebody on the street and they say, "Oh! I just read about the IMA," or "Oh! I just saw a news story about the IMA,"
and I know that the work that we're doing, people are seeing.
To me "It's My Art" means that people have their own unique reactions and responses to the pieces that they see when they are here.
