The symbol of the swastika has been expressed through many different cultures and has been around for over 3000 years. L.A. lamp manufacturers adopted it before Adolf Hitler turned it into a symbol of hatred. For the citizens of Los Angeles it was a reminder of the Southwest because it was borrowed from a common Navajo motif that meant, "that which revolves."
