La presente exposición constituye una oportunidad única para contemplar una faceta poco conocida de la historia del arte: la talla del cuarzo hialino o cristal de roca, arte en el que destacó la ciudad de Milán en la segunda mitad del siglo XVI. Por su valor artístico y material, estas obras se destinaron a colecciones que solo los soberanos y miembros de la alta nobleza europea se podían permitir.

Exhibition: Transparent Art. Rock Crystal Carving in Renaissance Milan

 

The present exhibition offers visitors a unique opportunity to see a little known chapter in art history, namely that of carving hyaline quartz or rock crystal, a technique for which Milan was particularly celebrated in the second half of the 16th century. Due to their value, both material and artistic, these works were only within the reach of monarchs and the highest ranks of the European aristocracy.
