Take a peek behind the scenes to see the installation of, 'Breaking the Mode,' an extensive exhibition of contemporary fashion from LACMA's permanent collection.
[Music]
This was an exhibition that we kind of heard about last minute and one thing lead to another and we booked it. It's something that we've never done here before.
There was this mandate to create these fairly large platforms, that we call risers, and right away you start thinking about, whoa! You know, an 11,000 square foot gallery
with 127 objects, there's going to be enough wood here to build a small house. We thought... there's got be a better way,
than creating this as a one use deal and then pitching it all. What we came up with was, basically, metal under-work that they use for
sound systems and stop-sound stages that they'll put up and take down, put up and take down.
These risers, for the first time, fold together like a deck of cards, and we can save them.
They butt together. They basically create a seam, and we rolled paint out over the surface and the seams just go away.
It's a really exciting time and it's just great that we have this exhibition to focus on at this time to show off what we can do.
