Catherine Opie: American Photographer
September 26, 2008–January 7, 2009
Catherine Opie confesses, “I’ve never seen the work together before,” speaking of her Surfers and Icehouses series. Both share the common narrative of “temporary communities,” as she calls them. The exhibition provided audiences with an unprecedented opportunity to examine the many interconnections between her diverse bodies of work, which, as she says, are all characterized by “these little moments that are recognizably human.”

I really enjoy all parts of this video. Your thoughts on the connection of water frozen or liquid and how differenties communities interact with it were great. We are all connected to water and we all are one.
Thanks for your post.Nice webdesign.
Dear Catherine; The video and your comment made me appreciate and understand the anthroplogical outlook in your work. Otherwise I would be lost. I hang out and wait hours for things in nature as I do landscape and design work in in the Tx Hill Country. And having hung out on the North Florida beaches and waited for 2 foot waves I get the connection in community. That is why I am giving you feedback. The other images, gay/lesbian not so much my thing. The statement in those photos exclude if you do not share in the lifestyle and therfore can be exclusive where the commubnity exhibit draws everyone in. Something for us to think about. Thanks for the work! Robin
