In February 26th 2010, leading contemporary glass artist Karen LaMonte (b.
1967) creator of the American Art Museum most recent acquisition "Reclining
Dress Impression with Drapery" talked about her work at the museum's McEvoy
auditorium. A 1999 Fulbright scholarship allowed Karen LaMonte to transform
her work. She pursued her interest in large-scale glass casting with Zdeněk
Lhotský at the renowned Studio Pelechov, north of Prague. During the past
decade, LaMonte has used this experience to develop a remarkable series of
life-size cast glass dresses—works so technically complex that they can
only be crafted at Lhotský’s studio, one of the world’s largest and most
advanced centers for glass casting.
