Hello. So I am supposed to be with you, and to discover the exhibition. I really like the exhibition because it shows various diversity of the European designer,
and this diversity, in fact, is not only coming from the fact that Europe is made of a lot of different culture.
It is also made by the fact that designers are developing a strong personal approach, and that’s why they are able to apply this approach in very different context.
As far as industrial designs is concerned, during the last decade, the know-how has been mostly used to bring standardization and uniformization.
But now, we are living in an interesting and challenging period. I feel that it’s really time to inject better and more of your individuality
or specificity, to express a value, to inject sensibility and humanity, also. And also, it's time to question ourselves and our society in a world.
And it's time to bring new logic of thinking, to open new perspective, and to visualize them, to make them share, thanks to the new numeric tool we get.
So, it’s really the perfect time to think and experiment. So, I will show you only few projects I did with this idea of experimenting
or going in new context. The first one is called Phytolab. I made it six years ago. And I was asked to create a vision of a bathroom,
and that’s why I handled this project which is not a project to be done, but a vision. So Phytolab is an open space which is transparent.
I thought the bathroom was, in fact, the adequate place to welcome the structure to grow plants and to learn how to use the plants for your body.
A grandma, before, was able to prepare some hot drink with plants to care about small disease, daily disease. But we lose this know how, little by little, and
so this system is little bit like cooking. You know, little by little you know plants, and you mix them. And so it’s another vision of the bathroom.
As you can see there is no mirror because the idea is not to look at yourself, but more to feel yourself.
There are a lot of projects I am doing, is around this idea of mixing nature and artificial. As a human being, we do create artificials. So, the idea is not to go back and try to get the genuine nature
but the idea is much more to understand how to make a symbiosis of this nature and artificial.
So second project is in a very different context. Two years ago I was asked to show a project in an art gallery for the first time,
and it was in Paris, in Galerie Thaddaeus Ropac. And my intention was at that time to create an object with two angle of view.
The objects could be seen as a sculpture or as a piece of furniture. It’s called nature morte à habiter, and I just wanted to be just in the middle.
It’s a range of project made in sycamore, in wood. Sorry.
I started with the idea of using no curve and having this empty colorated spaces touch to the body of the... and so it's give a kind of structural aspect
to the piece. But also, they are functional, as you can see, because the center piece is a lamp, and
this piece is an armchair, and you can really use the empty space to put books and newspaper.
This one is a long chair. I really like this project because it’s really according to my approach,
and I really like the idea to open the object to larger functions.
The the next project is about the hypothesis of work. It’s called the hypothesis of connection.
I did, first, this small illustration. I don’t know why. It was like an instinctive way, and then I tried to analyze what it means.
Today, we usually imagine specific and autonomous objects, but for this experimental project the idea was to think the object as an interconnected of wall.
So, the idea of, it’s the object exist only is as much as related to the rest, nature to the human and technical environment.
As you can see the small character is also made of layers of different networks attached, and is attached to the rest, so in a way it would be more responsible
of the wall. Let us take an example. The light switch. Today we have a big plastic and complex object around the light switch.
In a way, it can be reduced to being a link between two poles, and we can use a finger to do this connection between these two poles.
By analogy, becoming a light switch allows one to become part of the wall. So, this hypothesis of connection consists of removing the layers.
I just started to make visualization with lamps, because it was, for me, more easier, so I did this portable ones,
and this one which is bigger, with this idea of going a kind of flips, and the energy is providing the light, a little bit like at the beginning of the electricity.
And then I was asked to do a kind of experimental space. So, I did this scenography with the idea of bringing, not doing walls, but really having this structure
full of lights making different way, a different situation to sit together or individual.
And then I am now developing project according this unique *?__________?* habitation.
In fact it will be like a tree-like structure. So, it's like fall, and it's just like a plant house is innovated and structured by the root
in which flows fluid and energy.
So, the energy can feed multiple diffusers: detachable and removable. So, this is a little bit the drawing of it. So, as you can see you can attach lights,
a different sound and images diffuser, and whatever you want in the structure. Right now, we do build walls, and we never know where we put the fluid inside.
So the idea is to start this one as a logic, and I will develop this for school with students who are in fact builders, learners.
Sorry ... The next project I will talk about is called "another logic of." I was creating this project with the idea of creating new scenarios of life.
The first scenario is around a new eating ritual.
So, the time dedicated to eat around the table is stable in France. I think we take about 18 free minutes everyday around the table.
So, time dedicated to prepare the meal is declining, and so the intention of the project is to integrate a part of the ritual of preparing the meal
around the table. So, in France, we have two different explanation, we say or we do "faire la __________ "so it's meant we just cooking for surviving
or faire la cuisine which is very different. So, I did this table, with this tray up.
The idea is to finish or to prepare the meal on it. And because cooking could become a kind of leisure activity,
and you can share it. It's not always same person who will cook, and you can share with the family and friends.
As we all know, eating is an important and structural social activity. So when you finish the dish, you put it on the table, and chandelier is becoming sensor amplifier.
So, the chandelier is taking the major color of the dish and is projecting all around an atmosphere.
The idea is not to change the color on the table but just around.
The other project I did around this idea of "another logic of" is about light. It's a light made with two different parts.
You have one part outside. This part, it in fact is a collector of energy, but it will work only in the night.
These panels are taking the energy of the moon. You have to wait a week or even ten days to be able to use the energy.
This is the outside part. And this energy could be used for the diffuser which will be placing at home
because I think it’s too easy right now to just have to push enough to get energy. Energy is not unlimited. So, this light is a pure, is white, it's a symbolic light,
and the idea is to get another relationship with energy. Thanks a lot!
