Say hi to Rhett Reed at the Indianapolis Museum of Art in another installment of this continuing series. Go behind the scenes at a major art museum to see what it takes to make it all work.
I'm Rhett Reed, and I'm a Grounds Technician here at the museum of art. We take care of the turf; we take care of the irrigation.
We obviously mow, mulch...we're a jack-of-all-trades, and we do a lot of things out here...we're maintenance men, for the grounds. Art and Nature Park is all grounds. We cleared out this section here.
In a way it's kind of like we are archaeologists out here because we get into places that haven't been seen or touched for decades.
So, I basically went through this and it's tilted up and then we took the chips from our honeysuckle that we chipped and covered the path
which makes it nice, you know, I mean, this is a pretty good path to tell you the truth. You feel like this is your childhood woods, you know?
We put in some hard work out here, but it's gratifying because you get this...you get to be able to walk through some places that no one has walked through before.
There's a bunch of different people that come out here for all different kinds of reasons, joggers come out here, come down that hill, run around the back side and through that way and back down the canal.
The fishermen come out here, they get good fish, I guess, but I don't know, I haven't fished out here, but they say that they're a good size.
We want everybody to be able to come out here, you know, not just the nature lovers, the true hikers, or whatever. If you want your children to come out here, let them loose, they can come out here
and they can be part of nature at a young age and that's what's going to stick in their minds. Just take a little walk through the woods. It doesn't take very long. There is no swimming in the lake.
If you put your feet in there, it's alright and that feels pretty good and you can come out here and waste an afternoon.
Do we really want to stop this interview? I mean, what we have to do today? And then when this is all said and done you go see some freak'n art.
Go enjoy yourself. It's all free. How could you beat this? How could you not want to come over here to spend your lunch hour?
What "It's My Art" means to me is that you are going find your art here, it doesn't matter what it is,
you are going to find your art here. It's whatever you take it to be. It's my art.
Say it really fast, kind of sounds weird.
Man, that is a spectacular view of the lake!
