Channels: Bill FontanaContemporary Art
In February 2009, GALLERY CRAWL visits with Bill Fontana as he puts the finishing touches on his sound installation SPIRALING ECHOES, which essentially uses San Francisco City Hall as a musical instrument, shooting ultrasonic beams of bird, underwater and city street sounds off the walls of the building's rotunda. A few blocks away, New Langton Arts, a gallery known for its cultivation of innovative contemporary art, most particularly performance and time-based media, launches EVERY SOUND YOU CAN IMAGINE, an exhibition of musical scores. Robert Shimshak, the co-curator of the show and the art collector whose work anchors it, explains the connection between musical notation and visual art.
