Members of the Bay Area Indian community describe the context of Hindu arts in South Asia. Included are clips of temples, festivals, and worship at various sites in India. Part one of a two part series.

 

How has religion, mythology, and tradition influenced the creation of art? This group of videos features: Hiroshi Sugimoto, who discusses his interest in western and non-western traditions; a video about peaceful resistance and the Indian religion Jainism; a video describing the context of Hindu arts in South Asia; and a video from the Jewish Museum New York that combines the contemporary portraits of Kehinde Wiley with religious textiles, motifs, and decorative styles.
