The rising star of Danish fashion, designer Anne Sofie Madsen talks about her inspirations and why she loves fashion. While she has made drawings since she was a child, she finds that she is more interested in movement.

Anne Sofie Madsen (b.1979) graduated from the Danish School of Design in 2009. She trained under John Galliano for Dior in Paris, before moving to London to work for Alexander McQueen as Junior Designer. Madsen debuted with her couture-inspired collection during London Fashion Week in 2010. In 2012 she won the Danish Fashion award for best design talent. In 2012 she did shows in Copenhagen, St Petersborg, London and New York, and exhibited in Milan, Paris and London

In this interview Madsen explains how she has been inspired by Gauguin and the way he took a classic European vision and used it to explore something foreign, a kind of clash of cultures. She likes to find inspiration in different things for her collections. The current collection has been inspired by a film by Jesper Just. Madsen also likes how fashion is a vision which combines things such as music, girls, make up and clothes. Fashion is more craft than art, because it is made to be used, and the usability is very important to Madsen, who likes how people can use her creations and make them part of their own stories and journeys.
