Singer/Songwriter Bilal gives his thoughts on the Blues in modern society.
Bilal Sayeed Oliver, better known by his stage name Bilal, is an American singer-songwriter, musician and producer. From his wide vocal range, to his genre-bending albums, to his phenomenal live performances, Bilal is a respected voice in the music industry. He has collaborated with a variety of artists including Common, Erykah Badu, Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Guru, J Dilla, and many more.
In this Blues for Smoke webisode, Bilal helps to identify some contemporary artists that are carrying on the tradition of the Blues today. Bilal states that the Blues is more than just a 2-3 chord progression. He further states that the Blues can arguably be considered as the root of all American music today.
