In the fall of 2013 the Material Culture Program at the University of Wisconsin Madison created its own kind of Wisconsin Wunderkammer. Art historian Ann Smart Martin and Historian of Science Lynn Nyhart challenged a self-selected group of first-semester student “Science History Detectives” to search for treasures among campus zoology, physics, and art collections and to create exhibitions at the Chazen Museum of Art and in two science buildings. This video highlights teaching curatorial practice and the resulting exhibitions “Capturing Nature: Instruments, Specimens, Art” through the words and ideas of students and faculty.
