Chilean artist Iván Navarro recalls first coming to New York City as a tourist and being inspired to stay by the sense of freedom and experimentation that he encountered. He talks about how his work with fluorescent light has been influenced by the objects and strategies of Dan Flavin, and by Dan Graham’s writings on Flavin, and relates how his music label, Hueso Records, has offered a new and distinct context for working with Chilean artists on issues around identity, memory, and preservation.
