Artist and educator Luis Camnitzer reveals the route he took into art education, and talks about how he came to question its association with “training.” He also recalls his development of an interest in printmaking techniques, and describes how this in turn led to him to use “descriptions of visual situations” in place of objects or images. Labeling his practice “contextual art,” he characterizes the work of art as a “stimulus” that should “generate and unleash a process.”
