In this video, Nnenna Okore discusses her interest in materials that break down over time, such as fiber, trees, and roots, which allow her work to organically embody their own processes of aging. Okore transforms discarded materials into intricate sculptures and installations that address the relationships between consumption, waste, and economic conditions. In 2011, her artwork was featured in two exhibitions at Skidmore College: the Tang Museum’s Environment and Object - Recent African Art (2011) and the Schick Art Gallery exhibition Rush.
