How can you transform a military bulwark into a place that exudes love? How do you turn a war site into a construction that offers protection, which invites loved ones to wander at leisure and which connects a deepening of understanding with a heavenly feeling of lightness and freedom? This was the task that Sarkis set himself when he was invited to make an exhibition in the Submarine Wharf in Rotterdam. In this video the artist talks about his thought process and about the ideas behind his multimedia installation Ballads.

Ballads was on view at the Submarine Wharf on the RDM Campus, Rotterdam, from June 4 until September 30, 2012.
