The exhibition "Christo and Jeanne-Claude: Remembering the Running Fence" opened at the American Art Museum on April 2, 2010, and will remain on display through September 26, 2010. The Running Fence was inspired by snow fences erected along the Continental Divide, which separates the watersheds of the Pacific, Atlantic, and Arctic Oceans.
Christo and Jeanne-Claude's "The Gates" were installed in Central Park from February 12-27, 2005. The exhibit consisted of 7,500 gates stationed approximately 12 feet apart along the park's footpaths. Saffron-colored fabric hung from each gate.
Christo and Jeanne-Claude erected The Running Fence in Marin and Sonoma County, California. Construction of the fence gave temporary employment to many in the area, known for ranching.
Christo and Jeanne-Claude, the husband and wife environmental artist team, are well known for wrapping landscapes and urban structures in vinyl. In addition to The Running Fence, their works include Wrapped Reichstag , Wrapped Trees , and Surrounded Islands .

the Running Fence* [1] Christo describes the making of the Running Fence in
Sonoma and Marin Counties, California in the 1970s. He describes
collaborating with with Jeanne-Claude, working with the ranchers, obtaining
permits and the experience of it all.
