Jacob’s wife, Gwendolyn, was a pioneer and artist in her own right

Augusta Savage was an acccomplished sculptor who won numerous awards for her art. She recieved a Julius Rosenwald Fellowship for her sculpture entitled Gamin, a piece that many describe as her finest work.

This Columbia graduate was a supervisor for the Harlem Hospital Center Murals, a Works Progress Administration Federal Art Project. He was also the first African American to teach at the Museum of Modern Art.
