Gary Garay's art reflects a deep affinity for the everyday objects and images of Mexican-American culture. "I love regaining things that I have lost, and also gaining things that I haven't lost," he says in this interview. "Adding on to the continuum of who we are as people, I think, definitely fuels my work." The exhibition "Phantom Sightings: Art after the Chicano Movement" is at LACMA through September 1, 2008.
