Two lovers meet in an apartment. The older woman is from a "straighter" world and for her perhaps the love she feels for the younger woman is forbidden? They are passionately eager to see one another.  After lovemaking, the blond woman kills herself. Upon awaking from her rest, the younger woman is somehow not surprised, and methodically cleans up the blood from the bathtub.  She doesn't panic, nor summon the police. Perhaps the younger beloved knows in advance this will be the final occasion of their togetherness.  This short story questions the nature of love. We are left unresolved about the why of the older companion's death.  About the calm resolve of her living sweetheart who "pick up the pieces."
