The earliest museum collections, called Wunderkammern, or cabinets of curiosities, were assembled more than five hundred years ago by aristocratic Europeans who collected natural and man-made artifacts of great beauty and scientific importance. The legacy of these early cabinets lives on at the Milwaukee Art Museum's Loca Miraculi/Rooms of Wonder. Created by Wisconsin artist Martha Glowacki and curators at the Chipstone Foundation, this imaginative installation combines historic objects with original artworks in ways that delight our eyes, awaken our minds, and stimulate our emotions.
