On September 7, 2017, The Chipstone Foundation and the Milwaukee Art Museum co-hosted a StorySlam with Ex Fabula, a Milwaukee-based storytelling organization. The event, titled "Power, Dissent, and Youth Empowerment," connected two exhibits that explore African American experiences: "The Dave Project," which celebrates the work of important African American artisans, and "Hail We Now Sing Joy," (June 23 - September 17, 2017) which showed the sculptures and paintings of contemporary artist Rashid Johnson. Tellers Raina J. Johnson, Antoine Carter, Liza Kessler, Chad Johnson, William Harrell, and Kantara Souffrant crafted and performed personal reflections inspired by the exhibitions, captured in this video by Ted Brusubardis.
