Academic art historian Nora Taylor investigates the distinction between an “outsider’s” and an “insiders” perspective,” and explores the term “Occidentalists” in relation to modernism. She describes regional museums and biennials, but also independent projects and cross-national collaborations including projects such as the artists’ village founded by Tang Da Wu, and artists’ collectives in Vietnam like Sàn Art, founded by members of the Propeller Group, and the Nha San Studio founded by Tran Luong.
